Membership renewal

Renew your club membership now online. You can do it!

Remember: if you are a competitor, you will also need to renew your RNSW fees before you can race. This includes coxes.

New member orientation: Saturday 1 August

Find out more about the club at the new (and old) member orientation tomorrow, 1 August, 9-11am

The Leichhardt Challenge

The Corporate crews will take to the water in a week’s time. As usual all club members are asked to go out of your way to help them as they are the revenue stream which allows us to upgrade the fleet.

There are couple of crews who are short of rowers and so we have offered to provide them with “subs” for the duration of the training over 4 weeks from 10th August until the regatta at SIRC on 9/9. This is a great chance for some Recreational Rowers to get extra miles under the keel and learn a bit more as each session is coached. The regatta is lots of fun too. If you would like to join one of the corporate crews it would be a tremendous help for the club. Please write Justin to register your interest.

Remember also that this a time when everyone at the club can help with things like getting tinnies on the water early, coaching, tinny driving (you need a boat licence to do this), organising breakfast and being officials of one kind or another at the regatta.

Pymble training

Starting this Saturday, Pymble is back in the house during weekends.
Saturdays and Sundays from 6.30am until 11am until September.

Crews for Bohemia and Head of the Yarra 2015 – advise Captain by 7 August

Crews wishing to compete in this year’s long distance regattas are requested to email the Captain by Friday 7 August and advise both their training days and competition priorities ie. which long distance regattas you hope to compete in.

This information will be used to prioritise and allocate boat usage in the lead up period as well as coordinate both Learn to Row and Corporate Regatta crews.

Keep on the correct side!

Rowers and Coaches
Please make sure that you are staying on the correct side of the Bay. The early mornings are very dark and you might not see a boat coming your way until it is too late.

Please stay on the rower’s left side of the bay. The boat should have its bow side closest to the shore. This is especially true around Cockatoo Island where lots of crews (and coaches) veer diagonally across the bay once they’re passed Eliot St Wharf.

You must stay close to the Balmain side as you’re heading away from the club and then make a sharpish turn across the Bay once you are past the corner of Cockatoo and can see if there’s anything coming from that direction. If going on around Cockatoo, don’t cut the corner near the Cockatoo Ferry Wharf.

We have had crews hit and others collide due to corner cutting. It’s cold in the water at this time of year!

Boat Use Policy

– note from the President, Charles Bartlett

Members are reminded of their obligation to observe the Clubs Boat Use Policy.
Recent observations confirm Members and crews are using Black Boats without approval of the Captain. This must stop. Members should also note that it is only the Captain (or the Committee at a meeting) who can authorise use of Black Boats.

The Policy is in place to ensure that those who do use Black Boats have demonstrated a high level of competence and understand how boats are to be washed down and put away. Please read the Club’s Policy to make yourself aware of your responsibilities.

Coxswains Wanted

We anticipate at least 7 crews wanting to do the Head races this year, but we have few coxswains to steer our crews.

Any Member who is interested to do some coxing or know someone who might like to or learn is asked to nominate via the Captain.

Juniors Meeting

The meeting is on Sunday 9th August at 7am. This gives us 1 hour before the JB sharp event.

Happy birthday Lachlan Andrew and Steven Duff!
