The Leichhardt Old Rowers’ Reunion
From Barry Moynahan
The Leichhardt Rowing Club Union of Old Rowers (LUOR) is holding its Annual Reunion and Luncheon at the Clubhouse on Sunday 17th July commencing 11.00am, and all ACTIVE Club members are most welcome. The Official Welcome will be given by Mr Justin Milne, President of Leichhardt Rowing Club.
Once again, through popular demand, Retired Chief Superintendent Brian Harding will address interesting experiences from his leading roles in past Robbery, Consorting, Homicide and Armed hold-up squads, which have featured on TV and press in recent days and Gill Campbell, our last Olympian will give an update on life after Pymble.
This year Rowing Australia has also accepted an invitation to present the “McVilly – Pearce” pin to Leichhardt’s Olympic/Commonwealth Games members, or where deceased, to family representatives. This will involve some 13 individual presentations, also to include former Club President, Charles Bartlett.
This Reunion will also see former Australian Interstate Women Championship Four winners from the 1950’s coming together for the first time in many years – names like Doreen Addison, the grandmother of local champion Lauren Lyon; Club Patron, Lionel Robberds QC, AM will host these introductions.
It is important that where possible current Juniors, Senior Active and Masters, make the effort to come to the function and luncheon, as the LUOR only hold one such occasion once per year and all proceeds eventually go towards the purchase of club equipment through the Club’s “Balcony Boys”.
On Sunday 17th July 2016, registration at the door gives you the opportunity to participate in the 400 Club Draw – a $20.00 ticket that could win you $400.00 cash on the day – See Steve Jaques or Dave Bodell on weekends.
The wonderful Gourmet Lunch costs $25.00 and should you care to join the Old Rowers – the annual subscription is only $5.00 – obviously juniors have access to concession rates.
