As I will be in Melbourne next week for 6 days for the HOTY I ask everyone to put their boat requests in for 2 weeks ahead (this Friday). Please include the dates.
When you came up the stairs as a first time visitor to our Club the first thing you saw (and smelt) was our Lost Property.
Not a good look! It has now been permanently relocated to the back of the Gym area along the western wall.
Items there for over a week will be disposed of.
This Saturday on Iron Cove there is a school girls’ regatta. Pymble and Leichhardt crews will be loading from 7.30am until lunch time. Please keep out of their way.
If you are rowing then go out early. Do not leave your boat on the pontoon. Put all equipment away ASAP.
Head Of The Yarra Arrangements
If you are going to the Yarra Yarra Rowing Club dinner after the Head Of The Yarra you must pre-purchase your ticket on line www.shop.yyrc.com.au
$40 per head (2 courses). Bar Open from 6pm. We need you to all come to support the club.
Watch Duff break the drought – given he has not been drinking for a few months, and he’s not piss-fit, he’ll need all the “support” he can get.
Boat loading for the HOTY is on Wednesday 27th afternoon. The trailer is going down early Thursday morning. Boats will be accessible to rig on the Yarra from Friday morning.
Boat storage this year is not in the same location. The boats will be behind the Start Tower on the lawn, not along the side of the Swanston St bridge.
Another boat was in an accident this week. The crew were going down the middle of the waterway and another crew was coming the other way in the middle. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Take more care. Repeat offenders will be given older and older boats.
Coaches Log Book
There is now a GREEN folder containing log sheets for all juniors coaches to complete after each session. It is in the office.
All coaches should have returned a “Prohibited Employment Declaration” form to the Secretary’s basket in the office. If you don’t have one you can find a copy in the GREEN folder.
All Juniors coaches must also complete a Registration & Responsibilities form, found in the GREEN folder.
Get your Christmas Party tickets
Please see one of the helpers this week to buy your tickets so that we can plan the event. Buy ahead to get the discount price.
Shed Floor Downstairs – Part 2
Please leave your bags upstairs when going out for a row. There is far too much clutter on the floor making boat access more difficult. You never know, someone may hose your bags one morning.
Motors need to be flushed regularly and the outsides sponged down. Remember, LRC motors to the Western side and Pymble ones to the East of the bay.
Experienced Rowers needed to help
Guy and I are approaching all our competitive rowers to ask them to donate one or two sessions of time per year to help supervise and advise a recreational eight on Saturday or Sunday morning from 6.30 to 8.30am. This would mean coxing, rowing or going next to them in a tinny providing a bit of feedback. We aim to put up a roster for all to see at least a few months ahead. Please help when asked or approach Guy to let him know which date or days you could do. If we all do 1 or 2 then the whole year will be covered.
We now have 3 eights worth of recreational rowers. They are a valuable support to the Club and must be looked after. If you don’t help much at the moment then this would be a great way to participate.
Charlie Bartlett induction to the Rowing Victoria Hall of Fame
Rumour has it that our own Club President, the unique and unstoppable Charles Bartlett is about to be inducted into the Rowing Victoria Hall of Fame.
Charlie has given a huge amount to rowing in Australia, not just as President of our club but also as an Australian selector, member of the Rowing Australia Executive Board and also, most importantly perhaps, as a double World Champion. In 1980 and again in 1981 Charlie and three mates blitzed the field in the Lightweight Mens 4- ushering in a great period of success for Australian Men’s Fours.
Congratulations on your coming induction Charlie. You make us proud.
