Gold for Lauren and Olivia at the World Dragon Boat Championships!
Our very own Lauren Lyon and Olivia Kapocius won the U16 2km race in Canada (on Lauren’s birthday nonetheless!).
The LRC Annual General Meeting.
On Sunday 30th August at 10.30am we will be holding the 129th Annual General Meeting for the Leichhardt Rowing Club, at the Club.
All members are warmly invited to attend, especially because following the meeting we will have a “christening” ceremony for a couple of new boats to our fleet and for our shiny new trailer.
The ceremony will be followed by a sausage sizzle on the balcony and drinks.
Our trailer will be commissioned by the Hon. Jamie Parker, Member for Balmain, who has been very helpful to us with the grant that paid for the bulk of the trailer.
One of the boats to be christened will be the Miss Kate Chadwick which very kindly has been donated to the club by Mark and Kathy Goddard.
The other boat is our “new” VIII which will be know as the Fred Walsh. Fred was the very first President of LRC from 1886 to 1893.
At the AGM the annual report will be presented and eligible members will be entitled to vote for your new committee.

Out Of Bounds until it is light
Due to the numerous accidents to our boats over the past few weeks by crews speeding around Cockatoo the wrong way doing time trial practice in the dark, may I suggest nobody does it until after dawn.
Plus if you are rowing around an island anti-clockwise you should be well off shore, not close in. The clockwise crews have right of way.
Busy Pontoon: Keep things moving
Things are hotting up. There are crews everywhere. As long as you gather your crew first, put the oars down (beyond the white lines), take the boat out obeying the 2m rule and get on the water quickly everything will be ok.
Problems occur when boats are placed on slings and the crew disappears or is waiting for someone. Have respect for each other and “keep it moving.”
PLUS – remember that Corporate Eights have right of way on the pontoon. The best way to help them is to come down early or late, not in the middle of their rostered time – see the booking sheet for details.
August roster for keeping the shed and pontoon clean
August is Ben’s group’s turn to keep the pontoon clean. So far they have done a great job. The shed received a full sweep and hose out last weekend. Well done.
Only 10 sleeps left for this group.
Looking forward to seeing my reflection in the aluminium on the pontoon this weekend.
Gordon Cooper’s crew takes over in September.
LTR and Corporates: Regatta is on 6 September
All crews are approaching the end of their second week of training. By Sunday we will be starting to place bets on those with best form.
Remember that we want every Club Member to come out to SIRC on September 6th to help run the event.
We need lots of helpers to rig, repair, marshal, eat, clap and load. It’s a fun day and the weather will be fine with low winds (like in previous years).
