In such a tragic, difficult time for so many in the country and especially surrounding Sydney, the club would like to take time to appreciate the volunteers and paid firefighters putting themselves on the front line doing all they can to keep others safe. The club’s very own Matt Limburg is one such volunteer, taking time off work for weeks on end to help out. Good on you Matt, you have the full support of all members, keep it up, hopefully not for too long.
As always, the Christmas day row and “santa sprints” will be on, taking advantage of the one day a year where officials turn a blind eye to our presence on the Harbour, and Leichhardt is looking to be an ever-strong presence. The race goes from the Opera House to the Harbour Bridge on the ferry horn at 7am, so arrival at the Opera House around 6:30-6:45.
This means boating around 5:45-6, depending on the leisure taken in the row there. We’re usually out of the club by 8:30-9, ready for the rest of families to wake up.
If you’d like to participate, please put your name down on the sheet at the club. If you can organise your own crew (we usually take 4xs and 8s), please still write your crew down for boat allocation purposes, and in case you have a seat or two for others to jump into. This is also a great opportunity to take ex-rowers and the like out to remind them that rowing isn’t always so bad, but please keep a member-majority in the crew.
This is also a good opportunity to remind members that the stroke or cox as nominated “captain of the vessel” must stay below a BAC of 0.05, especially with double demerits season upon us.
