Membership Fees for 2015/16
From Charles Bartlett, President
Fees for season 2015/16 have been increased to ensure the Club can continue to operate and compete in regattas as we have over the last few years.
The increase also reflects a need for more money to be available for repairs and maintenance to be carried out to the clubhouse next year and in the future. Whilst the increase is higher than inflation, Members are reminded that there has been no increase in fees for the last 2 years.
Fees have been increased most in the competitive categories of membership, reflecting the cost of racing fees and coaching. Whilst in the other classes of membership the increase is more modest. The fee structure for next season has also been designed to help reduce the number of fund raising activities we need to run. In today’s economic environment and with other clubs copying the formula, we also look like getting a smaller participation in our Corporate event.
The Committee is mindful that fund raising activities are typically organised by the same tireless group of Club workers and not necessarily supported by the entire membership. So it is fairer to share the costs more broadly via fees this year than continue to expect the same group to step up for yet another year.
We trust all Members understand this issue and are supportive of the Committee’s view.
Fund raising activities will not totally end of course as they form the backbone of our ability to buy new equipment, but this decision recognises that we need to take the pressure off for a year.
