This Week @ LRC – 13 July 2018
from Justin Milne
The Corporate Season starts on Saturday 4th August. This year it looks like we will have somewhere between 12 and 20 crews competing. So we’re at about the same position as we were this time last year. Last year we had over 40 volunteers who made the whole thing a success. To date I have heard from just 11 people for this year.
So now’s the time to commit. Firstly you’ll have fun. Second you’ll meet some new people and help introduce them to rowing. Third you will be making a direct contribution to raising the revenue which is paying for the new pontoon surface and replenishing the fleet.
We need volunteers to coach, drive tinnies, cox and also to row in some crews when they’re short. It’s a great opportunity for recreational rowers to add a few more miles.
So please write to me, email@example.com as soon as you’ve finished reading the Newsletter and be a good club-person.
JB Sharp – Balmain, this Sunday
Note that the course of Sunday’s JB Sharp will be from “the other side” (North) of the bridge, finishing at White Horse point (kinda before the Dawn Fraser baths).
Please let Steve Duff or AnnaC know if you are going for boat allocations. No need to register, just pick up a boat and race.
Please pay your fees ASAP. They are now due. If you have not received an invoice, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org for one. If you want to change your membership level, please contact the Captain (email@example.com).
Trestles – thanks Tim
Thanks to Tim Tindale for assembling the last 10 trestles.
Please clear the pontoon for the girls on the following Sundays (except for JB Sharp regattas, where we will have to jostle around a bit), between 8am and 8.45am, and between 9.45am and 10.15am.
- Sunday 29 July – JB Sharp

Leichhardt Union of Old Rowers – Lunch reminder: Sunday 22 July
from Steve Jaques
New Members Needed
Currently the LUOR membership is getting a bit thin on the ground and it is time to enlist your support and encourage more LRC members to join us and keep the traditions of LUOR and the club alive.
We would love to see lots of club Masters crews and Recreational and Competitive groups of rowers attend our Sunday 22 nd July Reunion Luncheon. At present our membership consists of about 30-40 past members mostly those who rowed at Leichhardt, some over 50 years ago, but still have an interest in the club and its continued growth and successes.
We desperately need your support and attendance at the next LUOR reunion luncheon on Sunday 22nd of July. It would be fantastic to see as many new faces as possible come along and join the older members relive the past performances and greater glory of the club.
All funds raised are fed back to the club to provide financial assistance, with boats and equipment or other specific needs.
Our Guest Speaker
Our special guests speaker this year will be Steve Roll, Life Member – often seen but possibly not known by many. Steve will give us a look into his lifetime career associated with rowing and dwell on a few special events that have highlighted his career so far.
Fund Raising: LUOR “400” Club Draw #29
Due to the success of our past 400 Club Draws, this years prize, to be drawn at our Annual Reunion is worth $400 Cash to the winner. Hopefully with the support of all club and LUOR members and friends this will continue to be a successful way to raise finances so that we can continue to assist the club to add boats, oars, club upgrades and training equipment etc.
Tickets in the draw only cost $20 each with all the proceeds going to the club. Tickets can be obtained from Steve Jaques or Dave Bodell at the club on weekends or whenever you see them at the shed Or by contacting them by phone (see contact numbers in last weeks Newsletter). It will also be possible to purchase tickets prior to the draw on the day of the Luncheon Reunion.
Please support your club & buy some tickets.
COSTS for the Day:
Our wonderful gourmet lunch: $25 (juniors $15)
“400” Club Draw Ticket – $20
