This Week @ LRC - 29 July 2016

The Women's Eight is off to Rio!

Reminder - JB Sharp hosted by LRC this Sunday

Please note this Sunday, LRC will host the regatta. All members are asked to help as they can please. We will need to clear the pontoon and help people racing. Presentations and BBQ at the end of it, so be there!

Head of the Hunter

Congrats to Olivia, Freddie, Emma, Rhiannon, Ben, Matt, Christine and Anna who competed in, and completed, the long marathon (45km) up the Hunter River last Sunday. The river was windy and choppy and the race times ended up being much slower than last year's.

LRC retained the Club's trophy and the W2x (Christine and Anna) won the overall race and the women's trophies.

Matt and Ben did very well in their M2x and Olivia, Freddie, Emma and Rhiannon made it through the baptism of fire almost unscathed in their quad.

Till next year!

Captain's Update

From the acting Captain - Matt Bourke

Simon Hoadley

This time next week we will be saying farewell to a valued member of the LRC community. Simon Hoadley is taking the better leap over a bigger ditch and heading to L.A. We wish him and his family well. Simon has spent many hours in the boat (yelling at many people... push place pull)!, he will be sadly missed. Thankyou Simon and look forward to rowing with you again soon.

As a result we are a little tight on coaching at the moment (more news to follow shortly) so if you could please collate your squads goals and get to your vice-captain, we will try to accommodate coaches and training programs to all squads.

Weekly pontoon etiquette

Boat hulls are not to touch anything, this includes the pontoon. Please ensure that boats are held off the pontoon whilst getting in and out of the boat. Additionally try not to place the blades on the timber deck, wash them whilst carrying on your way through if you are in a crew boat. We need to reduce the amount of clutter and trip hazards on the timber deck.

Speed Boats

If your squad has a boat please ensure to bring it in. A min of 2 people are to be on each end of the trolley when pulling up from the water to the shed, additionally do not pull the trolley backwards. We have 2 people slip over in the past 2 weeks with injuries.

Learn to Row

Learn to Row commences Sunday 7th August. That means there will be learners on the pontoon on weekend mornings throughout August. Please make them feel welcome and exercise patience and good will at all times. Remember the money raised from Learn to Row benefits us all.

As ever substitute rowers will be needed to top up crews for the odd sessions - if you are able to help with any of the sessions please let Heidi know by dropping an email to You may not be required but having a couple of possible subs lined up in advance is helpful. Having full complement of rowers makes a big difference to the LTR experience and the participants are always particularly grateful to have an experienced rower on board whenever possible.

NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout

We have received notice from the Council that on the long weekend 30 Sept - 3 Oct there will be an event of the above title held on the ovals near us. They are expecting 10,000 people to attend - per day! They say that "council is working with the Redfern All Blacks on all aspects of planning including traffic management." We can safely assume that parking near the club will be impossible after some time in the relatively early morning.

Bay Run 2016

Dobroyd Point Public School are holding their annual fundraising event, The Bay Run on Sunday 7th August. The event starting point is located along the front of the reserve at the end of Maliyawul St and we are expecting in excess of 3000 people to take part this year.

We expect there will be considerably heavier vehicular traffic along Maliyawul St on the day of the event and heavy foot traffic during the time of the event. As in previous years, a road closure will be in place along Waterfront Drive (Callan Park) between 6am – 10am. Please note, this may affect some of the soccer regulars.

The race timings are as follows;
6:45am – Registration Opens
7:45am – Professional pre-race warm-up
8:00am – Start for all runners
8:10am – Start for the 2km primary school challenge
