Xmas sack

Christmas Donations

All members are asked to donate one wrapped mystery gift to help us have a great night on December 13th. Anything from a bottle of wine to a packet of Tim Tams.

Please place in the tub at the top of the stairs labelled CHRISTMAS GIFTS / SANTA’S SACK. Gifts for all ages needed.

Young children are most welcome to attend. We have lots of games which they can be involved in, run by Santa and his Elves.
And remember, buy your tickets online. You do not need to log on to do this, just go to the shop and purchase the tickets.

BOAT ALLOCATIONS

I will be in Melbourne until Tuesday after the Head of the Yarra so the boat allocations will be done then.

SHED CLEAN

Recreational Rowers are asked to stay back for 30 minutes on the 6th December to give the shed floor a good clean out.

Please remove all the mats to the pontoon, sweep out the floor of the entire shed then a good hose out.

Wash mats and return to normal locations.

A big thank-you from the rest of the Club.

ICC trophy 2014

IRON COVE CLASSIC

The series wrapped up last weekend.
We won several divisions plus the overall Men’s Eight for the fastest men’s crew for the series. That’s another trophy for the pool room!
Well done to all those who competed or coached.
It is a great way to get your fitness up for the upcoming season.

NAVIGATION

I still see crews with and without coaches travelling down the middle towards UTS then turning and coming back down the middle again. I’m surprised these people could obtain a drivers licence. If they were on the road they would be playing chicken into on coming traffic every day.

Go around both the yellow buoys!

TAREE

Make sure your race entry coordinator/coach knows whether you are interested in competing in Taree in January. This is a major event for the Club. We usually have about 50 rowers (plus family members welcome) attend over the 3 days of racing. Also make sure you book accommodation well ahead as the rooms go quickly. Many of us stay at the Best Western Taree Motor Inn on the river.

Words from Coach Steve Roll

The sculling school appears to have developed into a general sculling/rowing school. I don’t mind that, but there are still some things that I have to remind everybody about.

1) It would be a good idea if you let me know that you’re going to be there – and when (do this via the sculling board at the bottom of the stairs).

2) If you are a first timer in a sculling boat, I shall need about twenty minutes with you at the corner of the pontoon. This will necessarily close off that corner while we are there so don’t organise yourself at a heavy traffic time.

3) I operate only “in the loop” from the club to the bridge, across the course to the Drummoyne shore, back to Rodd Island, across the course to the southern shore, back to the bridge, etc., etc. If you choose to continue to Balmain or to Haberfield don’t expect me to follow you.

4) You MUST have a bow number on your boat. This is for my benefit as I can then see you from several hundred yards away. I don’t “see” crews or scullers without numbers.

5) The sculling school board in the lobby still operates, please use it so that I have some idea of who is out there and when. No limitations to the number of scullers but no more than two crews at one time.

6) It will be up to you to tell me when you have had enough, my sessions are necessarily stop/start and very repetitive, they can become very boring, so when you start to get bored, get off the water because I can’t help you if you are not receptive.

Steve Roll

Good luck to everyone participating in the Head of the Yarra this weekend. We have seven crews competing for Leichhardt, so the shed will be nice and quiet from Friday until Sunday, at least.
