This Week @ LRC - 22 August 2014

Corporate Regatta at SIRC on Sunday 7th September

LRC always puts on a great day at the Sydney international Rowing Centre (SIRC) for the Corporates and this year it will be more special as the Learn to Row crews will also compete.

We can only do it with the help and support of all members. We need your help on the day and with boat loading.

Loading will be on Saturday 6th at 11am (or before).

The first race at SIRC is at 8.00am so members are asked to be in front of the stadium by 6.30am to rig seven 8+.

The SIRC cafe will be open on the day.

Helpers needed in finishing tower, in tinnies, at the start, on the pontoon and to cheer for the crews.

This is our biggest fundraiser so all members benefit from it.

Check out the pictures on Facebook.

TRIVIA NIGHT SATURDAY 30TH AUGUST – 70S THEME

Please tell one of the organisers you are coming and buy your tickets now. It is very hard for us to organise when we don’t know if 10 or 300 are coming.

Trivia Donations required. To help make the night a success I ask that every member wrap a surprise gift and place it in the TRIVIA tub in the office. We will use these for the raffles etc. Can be Trick or Treat!

Remember we are providing nibbles upon arrival, dessert and tea & coffee. It is up to you to “bring a plate” or order home delivery. Plastic plates and cuttlery will be provided.

Best dressed table wins a prize – 70s theme.

Organisers – Sophie, Jan, Margaret, Rex, Catherine, Alex F and Steven and remember, buy your tickets now.

2014-2015 MEMBERSHIP FEES ARE DUE NOW. RENEW TODAY ONLINE

The clock is ticking down on your membership so please renew now.

BOAT RIGGING

rigging

Unless you own the boat, the only setting which can be changed without approval from Captain or the Head Coaches is the position of the feet. The workthrough of the boat (the slides vs the face of the oar position as shown in the picture) should not be adjusted unless your coach says so. If your legs are longer or shorter, adjusting the feet position should be sufficient. Changing the workthrough means changing the place where the power is applied and it may just make you slower. Find some basic concepts on this page.

Do not adjust collars or oar lengths, span or spread, gates and seat heights, pitches, and above all keep your hands off the steering. The Frances in particular seems to get its steering adjusted regularly (to be sideways!) making the boat awkward to steer, and veering one way. The steel cable also frays easily and it’s a pretty big job to change it.

If you are unsure about how to rig a boat, ask the Captain, the Head Coach or a Senior Member who knows what they are talking about (can you spot them?).

HOUSING BOATS: NEAR ENOUGH IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Some of the Corporates and Learn To Row crews are putting their eights away backwards . Coaches – make sure it is done correctly.
