This Week @ LRC - 25 July 2014

Annual Fundraising Trivia Night – Saturday August 30th, 6pm to 11pm

(It’s a 70s theme. Austin Powers for those who aren’t sure.)

Get a table of your friends (non rowing very welcome).
Be a Table Captain and organise a group. This is the best way you can help the Club.

Ticket costs:

• $40 adults and $20 juniors

• $400 for table of 10

• $320 for table of 8

Nibbles on arrival, dessert, tea and coffee included.

Bring a plate. Alcohol and soft drinks on sale.
Donations for prizes are needed: We need some good items for prizes and the raffle and quality items or services for the silent auction … so if you have something like a holiday house, or a service you can offer, or something you know people would be interested in purchasing, we would love to hear from you.

Tickets on sale through our online shop and also from Sophie, Jan, Keren, Cathy, Margaret, Rex, Sandra & Steven.

This is a major fundraising effort for the club and is a great fun night.

Membership fees are now due

Renew your membership and pay your fees online now.
Remember that to be able to race, you will need to pay your Rowing NSW fees as well.
If you are a new Rowing NSW member, you need to fill out this form and send it to the Captain.

Rack fees are also due. Please pay them asap or you will lose your spot.

Captain’s Log

We are now into the 2014/15 regatta season.
I have instructed Kristin (our regatta entry secretary) not to allow anyone to enter races if they have not paid their 2014/15 NSW Rowing membership fees AND their LRC 2014/15 fees.
If you haven’t paid there is no one to blame for your entry rejection other than yourself.
This is in line with your club’a policy. If you have an issue with this talk to me.

Someone is taking Leichhardt cox boxes home.
Please stop this practice and return them as soon as possible.
We need every working unit we have for Corporate Training.

Margaret Bailey has organised a course test to be held at the Club on 26th August at 5.30pm.

If you wish to be part of the group write your name on the list Margaret has placed outside the office. First 10 only.

She is providing log books and instructions.

The cost is $14 for the test and $32 for the licence = $46.

If you use the licence to help out at the club with coaching etc we will reimburse you.

See Margaret for more details and a log book.

Time to get organised again.

Entries for the following regattas are due to Leichhardt by the detailed dates. Until your group coordinator gets under way please email them directly to;
Remember, only those who have renewed their LRC and NSW Membership will be entered. This is your responsibility, not ours.

Head of Hunter on 3rd Aug – close to us by 27/7/14
Scullers Head Of Nepean on 23rd Aug – close to us by 10/8/14
3 Rivers Marathon on 24th Aug – close to us by 10/8/14

Belinda will be present on the pontoon this Sunday from 8.30am to allocate boats for the Balmain JB Sharp.
The course runs from the bridge towards the Balmain Clubhouse. This means extra time is needed to get back to the pontoon making boat rotation trickier.

pontoon mark
With the Corporate and LTR Training about to begin priority will be given to them for tinny use. I will put this on the roster as we get closer. Be aware.

Don’t just take a tinny and leave a crew short.
I will spread them out as much as possible.

When loading a tinny onto the water ALWAYS slide it in on the inside of the ramp onto the black hard rubber, not over the outside onto the soft white moulding. See photo for example of tinny cutting into blue matting.

Ask Odus

Send your existential questions to Odus, to see if he’s got enough guts to answer them. Odus is now on facebook too.

Scrooge: What happened to the other boards which need replacing on the pontoon? Did we run out of money (or time)?
Odus: Great observation skills, Scrooge. Maybe it was the unmatching colour of the new boards? All I can say is: patience, my friend, patience and come to the Trivia night to raise more funds… (meanwhile, how do you like the new sponges?)

One of the seagulls: We have great parties on the pontoon at night. Why don’t you ever join us?
Odus: Dear Seagull and friends, I have higher duties and could never join you rascals. Paul Hackett has to wash off your mess daily. I suggest you eat more bananas to limit the output.
